Description
“Ombra Della Serra” (Shadow of the Evening), Grand Tour souvenir after the 3rd Century BC. Etruscan bronze, hand-crafted in Italy, 1950s. The original is in the collection of the Museo Etrusco Geernacci, Bolterra, and was found in the first excavations of the Volterran Necropolis around 1728. The sculpture’s form inspired the name it was given reflecting the long shadows cast in the evening as night falls. It is believed that the form of this iconic sculpture inspired the 20th Century works of Diego Giacometti.
